We are Hiring! Immediate opening for Analytical Bio-Organic Chemist Level I/II

The Analytical Bio-Organic Chemist role focuses on novel compounds analysis and method development. This exciting role also plays a part in contributing to the R&D goals of a diverse line of innovative products that have a positive impact on health and wellbeing around the globe.

The bio-organic analytical chemist’s duties will primarily be split between analytical chemistry (ie. running HPLC/GCMS/LCMS and NMR samples) and in-vitro testing (ie. setting up and running in-vitro tests to assess compound metabolism and safety). The bio-organic analytical chemist may also gain exposure to other parts of the development workflow, including formulation development and synthetic chemistry.

While we are seeking someone who has proven experience with bioassays, characterization of novel compounds, and analytical chemistry of carbohydrates the ideal candidates are also capable of developing new methods for the analysis of novel compounds. We are also seeking candidates who are growth-minded, solution-oriented, and passionate about using their skills to make a difference in the world.

This might be the ideal opportunity if you are…adaptable, methodological, and driven. You view working through intellectual and practical challenges as an opportunity to learn and grow. You thrive with a balance of working independently and as a key member of an integrated R&D team. You work with integrity, always, and you seek to collaborate and communicate openly with others.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop, adapt, modify and validate analytical methods for the characterization of novel compounds with minimum supervision.

  • Develop and adapt a variety of analysis methods for the characterization of carbohydrate compounds (including stereoisomers), which includes various chromatography methods including HPLC, GCMS, and LCMS; spectroscopic methods including NMR spectroscopy, FTIR, optical rotation, CD and/or electrochemical analysis; and physical analysis properties such as DSC, TGA, Karl-Fischer, and others.

  • Set up and run in-vitro tests that include proteins as well as whole cells or cell lysates to assess compound metabolism and safety.

  • Maintain a proper laboratory environment in accordance with GLP, and QA standards; ensuring that safety guidelines are followed.

  • Design, plan, and execute experiments, either independently or in collaboration with your teammates.

  • Interpret and compile analytical data, contribute to the design of new compounds basis on the analysis data.

  • Source the analytical testing equipment and laboratory supplies that are necessary for the scope of their work and objectives of the projects, as required.

  • Operate, troubleshoot and maintain analytical equipment used in the facility, in compliance with QA standards and regulations.

  • Accurately document all data in compliance with cGMP/GLP, participating in discussions relevant to the project.

  • Appropriately dispose of waste solvents and maintain compliance with all health and safety standards.

  • Establish strong relationships with cross-functional teams (R&D, management, consultants, etc.).

  • Other duties as assigned based on evolving business needs.

  • Attend project meetings and present project updates about their work on a regular basis.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD with 2 plus years of experience in Analytical Organic Chemistry/Biochemistry.

  • Direct experience with methods for the analysis of carbohydrate compounds or oligo-/polysaccharide is preferred.

  • Experience with in-vitro assays that include proteins, whole cells, and cell lysates.

  • Self-motivated and self-directed scientist with a practical, industry-oriented mindset.

  • Thorough understanding and proven, hands-on experience in developing and operating modern analytical instrumentation.

  • Inquisitive, and able to problem-solve efficiently and independently.

  • Adaptable person thrives in a multi-disciplinary research environment, and who understands the importance of delivering results within project deadlines.
